Welcome to the Regional Centre of Nurse Education and Midwifery Education web page. The Regional Centre was established in 2002 by the Department of Health and Children for the purpose of providing in-service training and continuing education for registered nurses and other healthcare professional in the HSE-Dublin North East Region. These include services within the National Hospital Office (NHO) and Primary, Community and Continuing Care (PCCC) representing Mental Health, Intellectual Disability, Public Health, Acute, Older Persons, Psychiatry of Old Age and Practice Nurses etc.

A range of programmes are provided including mandatory training, Health and Safety training, accredited programmes by the Further Education Training and Awards Council & the Higher Education Training Awards Council. Appropriate programmes are also approved by An Bord Altranais and Professional Organisations

  1. To provide in-service education / training for registered nurses/midwives
  2. To act as a Centre for professional development of nurses/midwives within the health service.
  3. To provide support and development for staff in clinical areas to which student nurses are assigned.

The Regional Centre of Nursing/Midwifery Education is placed nationally within the Office of the Nursing Services Director and is managed by a Director and overseen by a Board of Management. The Board is composed of Directors of Nursing representing stakeholders in the HSE Dublin North East Region and chaired by the Director of Regional Nursing, Midwifery, Planning and Development. The Board of Management meet four times per year in which education and training as well as other related matters are addressed.

Upon entering the main enterance of the hospital, proceed to roundabout and take the 3rd exit. The Regional Centre of Nursing and Midwifery Education is located in the Academic Centre building (which is the 3 storey building on the right hand side). Enter the Academic Centre building and take the first corridor on left hand side to locate offices. Proceed down the corridor to locate classrooms which are sign posted.

All classrooms are fitted with PCs/Projectors. There are 6 classrooms in total. The rooms can also be used as a conference facility.

Types of educational programmes provided:

Educational programmes are provided throughout the year and dissemination of the information takes place through aprospectus ‘Calendar of Educational Programmes ’(see below) which is produced twice per year- January to June and August to December. The calendar is furnished to all members of the Board of Management by e-mail who subsequently distributes it to their staff in the clinical services. Educational programmes where appropriate are approved by either HETAC, FETAC, Dublin City University, Royal College of Surgeons, An Bord Altranais and accredited training bodies eg, American Heart Foundation.

  1. Seek permission from your Line Manager
  2. To book onto a programme, contact the appropriate person as statedon the ‘Calendar of Educational Programmes’
  3. Ensure to have your Personnel Number at booking stage
  4. In the event you are subsequently unable to attend, please cancel by contacting the person you booked the place on the programme

 

  • Registering for Higher Education Training Awards Council(HETAC) accredited programmes only

When deciding to undertake an accredited programme (see list below), complete the following steps

  1. Seek permission from your Line Manager
  2. To book onto a programme, contact the appropriate person as stated on the Calendar of Educational Programmes
