Connolly Hospital Medical Library was established in 1999 as part of a joint initiative between the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland and the Regional Library and Information Service of the Eastern Health Board. The Medical Library is situated on the first floor of the Academic Centre and since its establishment has offered a high quality library and information service to staff and students at the hospital. Also located in the Academic Centre is the Nursing Library which is administered separately as part of the Centre for Nurse Education.

- Access to full text health and medical electronic databases including Cinahl, Medline, Psychinfo and Cochrane. Library databases require an Athens login. To obtain an Athens password go to www.hselibrary.ie .
- Training sessions in searching skills and the use of online databases. To book a training session complete the Training Form.
- Document Supply. Obtaining articles from other libraries. To order articles please complete the Inter Library Loan Form.
- A full time reference and enquiry service to answer user queries. To request literature search complete the Literature Search Request Form.
- Current Awareness Services. To request the table of contents from journals please complete the Zetoc (electronic table of contents) Form.
- Book lending services. The library catalogue provides a detailed listing of items held in the library collection. To Get access to the Library collection click on Library Catalogue
- Access to reference materials including journals and newspapers.
Joining the Medical Library

Proof of identification will be required in order to join the library service. Proof of identification can include any of the following:
- Current employee identification card
- Header of payslip
- Letter on headed notepaper
Please note that you will not be eligible to apply for an Athens password until you have registered with the library.
You can apply for an Athens password at www.hselibrary.ie you will need your personnel number.

The Connolly Medical Library is open:
Monday-Friday: 10-30am—1-00pm and 2-00pm—4-00pm
Please note that the electronic reading room which is situated next door to the Medical Library and provides access to PC and printing facilities is open 8am-10pm Monday-Friday. Access to this room is provided for registered HSE and Royal College of Surgeons staff only
